Nestled under the colossal Jordan bridge and adjacent to the beautiful Elizabeth River, this site required remedial re-coating to the concrete bulkhead.
Location: Portsmouth, VA
EOR: Hana Engineers
Contractor: The Nexus Company
Funded by the EPA Superfund Program, The Nexus Company undertook the delicate task of repairing the existing coating at the AWI site. This required careful cleaning of the existing substrate while not introducing any harsh chemicals to the Elizabeth River. The new coating consisted of a high-mil epoxy base coat, finished by an aliphatic top coat with integral aggregates.
Pull testing, cleaning and preparing the bulkhead substrate was key to ensuring a proper bond to the existing coating.
The new ultra-high impact resistant coating will serve to protect the bulkhead for years to come.
